Prof Brown's research on colorectal cancer staging established national and global benchmarks for imaging assessment, reducing local and distant failure in high-risk patients and avoiding overtreatment in low-risk ones. MRI-based strategies were integrated into peer review measures, UK NICE, and global guidelines. Prof Brown contributed to NHS workforce development by teaching on national training initiatives, leading the Low Rectal Cancer National Development program, and improving MDT decision-making and cancer care. Prof Brown enjoys collaborations with international research groups. She has served as a Radiology Expert for National Colorectal Cancer quality improvement and guideline initiatives in North America, Australia, Korea, Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden and Norway. She co-authored pan-European, ESMO and ASCO consensus guidelines for optimal treatment of rectal cancer. Her latest clinical trials focus on using MRI to improve patient selection for organ preservation and prognostic staging accuracy for rectal cancers.
