DATO’ DR AHMAD SHANWANI BIN MOHAMED SIDEK BSc(Hons), MD, MS – (UKM), Fellowship in Colorectal Surg (MOH) Dato’ Dr Ahmad Shanwani graduated from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 1994 and received the Master of Surgery from the same university in 2001. He set up the Colorectal Surgery Unit in Kelantan after completed his subspeciality training in Singapore National University Hospital, Bangkok Chulalongkorn Hospital and International Islamic University in 2008. He is currently the National Head of Surgical Services for Ministry of Health, Malaysia. His area of interest is in proctology, and his published work on LIFT (Ligation of Intersphincteric Fistula Tract) procedure has been cited by more than 385 international articles. He has been appointed as an expert reviewer for Diseases of Colon and Rectal Surgery Journal, Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, Brazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research and World Journal of Surgical Procedures. He is the chairman for the national committee on Clinical Practice Guidelines on Management of Colorectal Cancer (Revised edition). He is one of the Conjoint Board member for Master of Surgery and Colorectal subspeciality programme. He is a past Council Member of Malaysian Society of Colorectal Surgeons. He has been an invited speaker at numerous local, regional and international meetings.
