Dr Charles Tsang Senior Consultant, General Surgeon, Director of Colorectal Clinic Associates MBBS, M.Med(Surg), FRCS(Ed), FRCS(Glasg.), FACS, FASCRS, FAMS, Adjunct Associate Professor, Department of Surgery, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, SINGAPORE Dr. Charles Tsang's exceptional medical journey began when he graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1987. He furthered his qualifications by obtaining a Fellowship Diploma in Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 1993. His pursuit of excellence led him to complete a Clinical Fellowship in Surgery at the Leeds General Infirmary in the UK in 1994, followed by an advanced residency in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the University of Minnesota. His dedication and outstanding performance were acknowledged when he emerged at the top of his class, becoming the first non-American to receive the prestigious Carl E Christensen Outstanding Resident Scholar Award in 1997. In 1998, Dr. Tsang successfully defended his thesis, earning a Master of Science in Experimental Surgery. He continued his professional journey, becoming a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine and an accredited Specialist in General Surgery in 1999. Dr. Tsang held leadership positions as the Head of the Division of Colorectal Surgery at the National University Hospital (NUH) and as the Head of Surgical Oncology at the National University Cancer Institute of Singapore. In July 2012, he transitioned to private practice with Colorectal Clinic Associates. With over 25 years of extensive experience, Dr. Tsang is a highly accomplished surgeon with expertise in laparoscopic and robotic surgery for both cancerous and benign conditions, proctology, advanced therapeutic endoscopy, and the management of functional bowel disorders, including constipation and incontinence. Notably, his specialized interest lies in anal fistula and endoanal ultrasound imaging, for which he enjoys international recognition. In addition to his clinical achievements, Dr. Tsang is deeply committed to undergraduate and postgraduate surgical education. He currently serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, where he continues to shape the future of medical professionals.
